School District Leader Advanced Certificate


The SDL Advanced Certificate program is designed for candidates seeking to become administrators at the district or central office level.

This 12-hour, fully online program includes coursework in negotiations, superintendency, and central office leadership. New York SDL certification requires these 12 hours and 60 total graduate credits.

With the permission of the program director, up to three (3) credit hours may be transferred into this program.

      Jan 30, 2025 | A book chapter by Dr. Tyrone Bynoe, associate professor of Education and director of the Educational Leadership program, and Dr. Genelle Morris, superintendent of the Olean City School District and an adjunct instructor at SBU, has been accepted for publication in a book titled "Problems of Practice: Case Studies on the Superintendency," scheduled for release in the summer of 2025.

      Jan 30, 2025 | Dr. Jason Margolis, professor of Educational Leadership, is co-author of "Spanners and enhancers: The role of teacher leaders in school evolution," an article just released in the journal Educational Management Administration & Leadership.

      Dec 13, 2024 | Dr. Tyrone Bynoe, associate professor of Education and director of the Educational Leadership program, is the lead editor of a book proposal approved for publication by Information Age Publishing.

      Nov 23, 2024 | Dr. Tyrone Bynoe, associate professor of Education and director of the Educational Leadership program, gave an online presentation of his paper at the annual Organization of Educational Historians conference, held Sept. 28.

      Aug 23, 2024 | During 2023 and 2024, the following sample of students completing or pursuing SBU’s MSED in Educational Leadership and Certificate programs have secured public school administrative jobs or assignments.

      Jun 14, 2024 | With its first course beginning in two months, the new doctoral program in Educational Leadership at St. Bonaventure University has been granted membership in the Carnegie Project on the Educational Doctorate (CPED) Network.

      Apr 25, 2024 | Beginning this fall, SBU’s School of Education will offer a doctorate in Educational Leadership, the first doctoral program offered by the university in 45 years.

      Feb 23, 2024 | Dr. Tyrone Bynoe, associate professor and director of the educational leadership programs leading to advanced supervisory licensure, has been accepted — in an invited and blind review — to present a paper on the “Historical Origins of School Finance Equalization” at the annual meeting of the Society for the Study of Curriculum History in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on April 10.

      May 18, 2023 | The School of Education at St. Bonaventure University has received accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), an internationally recognized accrediting body that works to ensure excellence in education preparation programs.

      Feb 24, 2023 | Dr. Tyrone Bynoe, associate professor of education and director of educational leadership (advanced school supervisory preparation), has had a proposal accepted to author a chapter in an emerging book titled "Wellness Through Mentoring Within a Continuum of School Leadership Preparation."       Oct 23, 2021 | Dr. Tyrone Bynoe, associate professor and director of the educational leadership program, is awaiting publication of the three works. He also presented a paper, virtually, at a conference in Geneva, Switzerland, and has accepted a scholarship to participate in a program in Louisiana.

      Jul 06, 2021 | Dr. Latoya Pierce has been named interim dean of the School of Education at St. Bonaventure University. She replaces Dr. Lisa Buenaventura, who retired May 31.
